{"id":224,"date":"2019-09-05T17:28:58","date_gmt":"2019-09-05T17:28:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/demo.mekshq.com\/johannes\/dc\/?p=224"},"modified":"2019-10-05T07:54:19","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T07:54:19","slug":"wechat-article-best-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wechat-article-best-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"WeChat Content Best Practices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This article was originally published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/wechat-content-best-practices-august-olivia-plotnick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">on my LinkedIn author profile<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Search for \u2018<em>best content practices<\/em>\u2019 and you\u2019ll find advice applicable to almost any channel, WeChat, Instagram, LinkedIn, websites, blogs etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just take these three from Gary Vaynerchuck that I live by; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Provide massive value before asking for anything in return<\/li><li>Stay as authentic as possible <\/li><li>Play the long-term game <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you create content that aligns with these principles, why can\u2019t you copy+paste that same content across all of your channels and call it good? Why do we make such big deal about WeChat being so different to Facebook?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trick to producing effective content for each social media\nchannels is knowing; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The behavior of your audience on each channel <\/li><li>The reason why your audience is on that channel <\/li><li>The options you have in terms of what type of media you can use and how you can use it <\/li><li>The subsequent actions you can ask your audience to take via that channel <\/li><li>How to maximize attention with the space you have <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But why is WeChat so different from Western social media? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brands that have trouble creating high performing content for\nWeChat are misunderstanding one or most of the above. WeChat is a tricky\nplatform because it is a blog, a website, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn all\nrolled into one, and this makes it difficult to design content that isn\u2019t\neither completely boring, or all over the place. Not to mention the fact that\nwhile we treat WeChat as a social media platform, it is much, much more \u2014 user\nbehavior is much different than traditional social media channels like Facebook\nor Instagram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So how do you create great content for WeChat? Having a strong title is your first shot at getting someone to open\nyour content and OKRA definitely caught my eye with this one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the title isn\u2019t the only best practice here \u2014 this article is\nincredibly authentic and real, using thought leaders from relevant industries\nto contribute their short stories to the piece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2705DO: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>\ud83d\udc49\ud83c\udffcHave titles that ask an intriguing question <\/li><li>\ud83d\udc49\ud83c\udffcCollaborate with others to tell a story <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NIKE WOMEN <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2b50\ufe0fBest Practice [WeChat specific]: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Interactive <\/li><li>Multiple forms of media <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all of us have the resources and the budget to produce\ngraphics like Nike, but we should all have goals right? Not only text, but gifs, short videos and colorful photos are used. DiDi (car hailing app) did this quite well on Mother\u2019s Day,\nposting a touching, yet humorous story of a son-in-law\u2019s relationship with his\nmother, and in the end highlighting their new feature \u2014 the ability to hail a\nride for someone else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"452\" src=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-5.jpg 800w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-5-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-5-768x434.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-5-540x304.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For Chinese Valentine\u2019s Day, alcohol and spirits account Ask\nJerry leans on the Valentine-less crowd comparing falling in love to hangovers\n\u2014 whether you can sympathize or not, it\u2019s a clever way to tie together a\npopular holiday with the brand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the post Ask Jerry asks readers to comment on the\narticle with their worst hangover stories, promising the top 3 comments a\nsurprise gift. Not only does this prompt engagement, but by saying the top 3\nrated comments win a prize, commenters are encouraged to share with friends who\nwill like their comment, thus generating more eyeballs on the content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to fun contest, Ask Jerry also does a simple, yet\neffective job at calling your attention to the WOW button \u2014 a feature that can\nalso boost your article\u2019s reach. When a user clicks the WOW button on an\narticle, the article will appear in their friend\u2019s Discover tab, increasing the\nchances your article reaches a new, relevant audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2705DO <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use holidays and shopping festivals to inspire your content <\/li><li>Encourage comments and clicking the WOW<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>AIRBNB <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2b50\ufe0fBest Practice: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Showcasing different audience segments <\/li><li>Giveaway contest <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How do you produce content for everyone? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airnbn has a wide range of offers, from lavish castles to bunk\nbeds in dorm rooms \u2014 so naturally they are trying to appeal to a wide range of\ncustomers. This piece follows several different customer types as they describe\ndifferent options for a 48-hour Mid-Autumn Festival trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"451\" src=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1552\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-6.jpg 800w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-6-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-6-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-6-540x304.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The user-generated-content from each different segment is a great\nway to show that Airbnb has something for everyone, while also lending\nauthenticity and voice to their content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the post Airbnb adds an enticing call to action,\nencouraging readers to enter their mini program for a chance to win some\nvouchers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2705DO: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Try to create content that will resonate with a wide range of your audience <\/li><li>Always include a call to action \u2014 make sure you provide the option and encourage readers to continue engaging with your brand. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>UNRAVEL<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2b50\ufe0fBest Practice [WeChat specific]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Maximizing attention <\/li><li>Good photos <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For most WeChat Official Accounts (Service Accounts) you are\nallowed to publish articles four times per month, but each time you can include\nup to eight articles, one main article and 7 sub articles \u2014 however we know\nthat between the first and second article, read rates drop dramatically and\neven more so for a third and so on, so how can you combat this if you have\ndifferent types of content to push? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unravel Stories creatively maximized the attention of readers by including multiple categories of content within one main post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-7.jpg\" alt=\"WeChat Article Best practice\" class=\"wp-image-1553\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-7.jpg 800w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-7-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wechatwiki.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/09\/wechat-content-best-practice-7-768x436.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The content is clearly separated so that the reader can tell they are moving through different sections, much like a magazine or website.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of creating multiple different posts to introduce their\nupcoming event, talk about their podcast or services, which likely would have\nresulted in several articles getting significantly less views, Unravel pulls\nreaders through the whole post with a clear, organized and impactful layout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unravel also includes excellent photos in the WeChat article,\nthey are professional, you can clearly see the subjects in the photo and they\nare all on-brand. Remember, most readers are likely viewing the post on a\nmobile phone, so photos of large crowds or small objects are usually not\noptimal.
